Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security for your ScripTreeApps account. This page explains what it is, how to turn it on, and how to use it.

What is 2FA?

Two-factor authentication means you need two different things to log in:

  1. Your password
  2. A code from an authenticator app on your phone

This makes your account much harder to break into. Even if someone gets your password, they can't log in without the code from your phone.

How to set up 2FA

Setting up 2FA takes about 5 minutes. You'll need:

  • Your smartphone
  • An authenticator app (we recommend Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy — all are free)

Step 1: Download an authenticator app

If you don't already have one, download a free authenticator app from your phone's app store:

  • iPhone: Apple App Store — search for "Google Authenticator" or "Authy"
  • Android: Google Play Store — search for "Google Authenticator" or "Microsoft Authenticator"

Step 2: Enable 2FA in your account settings

  1. Log in to ScripTreeApps
  2. Go to Account > Security > Two-Factor Authentication
  3. Click Enable 2FA
  4. A QR code will appear. Open your authenticator app and scan this code
  5. Your app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter this code into the ScripTreeApps form
  6. Click Confirm. 2FA is now enabled!

Your backup codes

After you enable 2FA, ScripTreeApps shows you a list of 10 backup codes. Save these codes in a safe place.

Why? If you lose access to your authenticator app (for example, you lose your phone), you can use a backup code to log in instead.

Important rules:

  • Each backup code can only be used once
  • After you use a code, it's gone — you can't use it again
  • Save your codes somewhere safe (like a password manager or written on paper in a safe place)
  • Don't share your backup codes with anyone

Logging in with 2FA

Once 2FA is enabled, logging in works like this:

  1. Enter your email and password as usual
  2. When prompted, open your authenticator app
  3. Find the code for ScripTreeApps and enter it
  4. You're logged in!

How to disable 2FA

If you want to turn off 2FA, you can do so in your account security settings. You'll need to re-enter your password to confirm.

  1. Log in to ScripTreeApps
  2. Go to Account > Security > Two-Factor Authentication
  3. Click Disable 2FA
  4. Enter your password to confirm
  5. 2FA is now turned off

Note: Disabling 2FA makes your account less secure. We recommend keeping it enabled if possible.

I lost my phone. What do I do?

If you lost your phone and can't access your authenticator app:

  1. Go to the ScripTreeApps login page
  2. Enter your email and password
  3. When asked for your 2FA code, click Use a backup code
  4. Enter one of your backup codes
  5. You're logged in! Now go to your security settings and disable 2FA or set up a new authenticator app

Important: Use backup codes carefully. Once you use a code, you can't use it again.
